Employee Spotlight: Lauren, Sales Manager

At Barn2Door, we pride ourselves on delighting Farmers by helping them grow their business selling direct-to-market. We recently sat down with Lauren, an individual who has a deep passion for supporting her team to help Farmers succeed. In this edition of our Employee Spotlight series, we’ll learn more about Lauren’s journey working at Barn2Door, how she embodies the company’s core values, and what advice she has for people interested in joining our growing team.

Lauren joined the team two years ago after college. While looking for job opportunities, she knew she wanted to be a part of an organization that served local communities and helped the planet. She was attracted to Barn2Door as a mission-driven company and liked how employees shared a common purpose of empowering Farmers to succeed online. Now a Sales Manager, Lauren manages a team of six people and supports them in understanding Farmer’s challenges and helping grow their businesses.

How has Barn2Door changed in the two years you’ve been here?

When I started, there were four of us in the sales department. Now there are twenty. We’ve focused on putting the proper processes in place, like training, which has helped us succeed within the department. I started before we had the big, beautiful office, so it’s been fun to be a part of this change. There has been so much hard work that has made all the moving parts happen, but the company’s structure has seen tremendous growth!

What does a typical day look like in the job?

My job is to help my team be successful. It’s one of my favorite parts. For a Farmer, it’s not just their business. It’s their whole lives that impact their family and their community. If I can help my team understand that and have meaningful conversations in a way that engages Farmers and helps them succeed, that’s why I’m here!

A big part of my job is growing the sales department too. Putting processes into place, like training or walking a Farmer through a demo, are essential aspects of ensuring the team is successful!

What makes Barn2Door unique?

The opportunity here is significant, which is wild! Every company has a mission, but Farmers are so underserved. There’s plenty of room for growth at Barn2Door. I came into this role without much sales experience, and now I am managing a team of six, and it’s only going to continue to grow! Sometimes the amount of potential is a little scary, but that’s what makes it fun!

Why do you like working at Barn2Door?

Being a part of something that’s so much bigger than myself is very motivating. One of our core values is Humble. It’s not about us. It’s not about me, and remembering this makes it easier to do my job. Also, watching my team grow and help Farmers through challenges and seeing them be successful is rewarding. Working with Farmers who are such wonderful, genuine, and humble people makes every day so fun!

How would you describe the culture at Barn2Door?

Our company’s core values describe the culture well - Hardy, Humble, Hungry, Heart, Humor, and Helpful. Humor is one of my favorite ones. We have a lot of fun, but it’s because we work so hard that we get to have fun. And these two go hand in hand. The amount of passion that everyone has is palpable and seen throughout every meeting and phone call.

What is something someone who doesn’t work at Barn2Door might not realize about the company?

We have a significant impact on our food system and the way people access food. The work we do is so important because when we help Farmers, we are helping the earth, and in turn, we’re also feeding local communities. If we can help a Farm grow their business, we’re impacting their livelihood, their family, and by extent, their community, which is a big deal!
